Created on 1 January 2012, Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) can legitimately be considered, after its first five years mostly dedicated to its restructure as a single university, to have met its most important challenge: fusion of three universities in the region and establish a major world-ranking university.

AMU is thus a university dedicated to intensive research with partnerships throughout the world, thus ensuring its attachment and integration within its region and its place among France’s top universities according to the Shanghai classification.  AMU is a multidisciplinary university with five disciplinary sectors and comprising 19 separate bodies (faculties, schools, institutes) and one multidisciplinary sector (including ESPE IUT):

  • Economics and Management
  • Health
  • Science and Technology

Its campuses are located in 10 cities across four French departments. Its property holdings include 58 sites and cover more than 830,000 sq.m. AMU has received an Operation Campus grant which, in conjunction with a State-Region Contract Plan, has been used for the rehabilitation and modernisation of its campuses in order to meet the highest international standards. AMU is now a recognized and identified institution that has established its identity, assumed its place as an indispensable actor in its region by actively contributing to its development and prestige.
