Artist

Katia Bourdarel was born in Marseille in 1970. She lives and works in Paris.

After graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in Art and Space, Katia Bourdarel quickly started a collaboration with Galerie Roger Pailhas, which has exhibited her work in numerous national and international art fairs.

Today, her works can be seen at the Aeroplastics Gallery in Brussels, and Bernhard Bischoff Gallery in Bern.

Since her early productions, Katia Bourdarel has played with polymorphic media, in all phases of her painting and installations, and adapts her work to the concept and understanding of each project.

She is inspired by popular culture and her own history as a way of questioning the capacity of wonderment within each one of us and creates works about personal and collective memory. Bourdarel's work covers various opposing themes, such as life and death; good and bad; innocence and guilt. She plays with resemblances, dissonances, intimacies. Everything remains on the surface, everything seems simple, but there is something oblique that makes us look at the other side. This is where the singularity of her work emerges.
